As with almost everything else in life, one of the first things anyone thinks about when they want their automobile transported from one destination to another is, how much is it going to cost. Where can I find the best deal? Decisions, decisions, decisions; we all have to make them on a daily basis. So, we pull out our favorite electronic device and start researching, trying to get the best deal from New York, New Jersey, or Boston to Florida, time to go soak up some sunshine. With so many options how do you choose? Is the quote you are getting accurate? How do I even know I am getting a safe and reliable company to transport my car?
The best starting point is to do a comparison, and look at your options because cheaper is always better and there’s no guarantee, but you do want your car to have a safe ride, “pardon the pun”. When you are weighing your options, know exactly what you want and then go from
there, because just getting a quote that sounds good is not the answer. Think customer service,
think the mode of transportation, think the reputation of the transport company, think the type of vehicle you have, think distance, think open or enclosed transportation. These are some of the decisions you have to make before committing to any one company.
When looking for quotes online or over the phone, auto shipping is a process, so open lines of communication before committing, ask about door-to-door service if that’s what you want. Ask about pick-up and drop-off flexibility, insurance, advance booking, and additional charges. Remember, a quote is just an estimate, and the price you get this week may not be the same next week because things change fast in the logistics industry, so you could be paying more or less. But most, if not all the time, you might end up paying additional fees because that is just what an estimate is, an estimate, not the final amount.
1. Contact an auto shipping broker (even after you got an online quote)
2. Think about where you shipping from & where to (distance affects rates per mile)
3. Check similar quotes for your vehicle model, make, and year
4. Check to see where you want the vehicle picked up & dropped off (important)
5. Do you want to transport an operational or nonoperational vehicle?
6. Compare, compare, compare
While this checklist is not set in stone, it gives you an idea of what to look for when you want to ship your car. Reach out to the auto transport broker or carrier, and get a feel of their customer service, see if they offer some type of discount, and guarantee pick-up, and drop-off dates. Remember, there’s really no one “best” company when it comes to auto transport, because every customer experience will be different, so start a dialogue by calling, and get a feel of what to expect from the broker/carrier, you want open honest communication, nothing else.
You get what you pay for most of the time, so just make sure to do your due diligence before,
